The Stillwater Juliette Low Society provides financial and program resources for Girl Scouting and gathers together women to serve as visible advocates for girls. Formed in 1993 to raise funds for the restroom/storm shelter at Camp Sylvia Stapley, SJLLS benefits both Girl Scout programs and facilities.
Camp Sylvia Stapley's focus is nature education through hands-on learning activities. Funds support pond construction for the study of aquatic life and teaching canoeing skills on-site. Plans are in place to build a nature center for Council troops to use as a learning facility. New tents allow troops to spend an overnight tenting under the stars.
Waterfront activities during Sylvia Stapley Day Camp now include both Canoeing I and II and Sailing and are ever popular with girls sixth-grade and older. Purchases of sailboats, canoes, kayaks, paddles, and life-jackets have made it possible to meet the growing demand for the challenging and fun waterfont activities. Boats and equipment are housed at Camp Stapley and may be checked out by troops.
Scholarships were added as a annual goal in 1996. Together Tulsa and Stillwater JLLS award eight $1,000 annual scholarships to graduating Girl Scouts.
Wider Opportunities/Destinations are national and international travel education programs for girls 14-18. Programs range from space exploration to marine biology to primitive camping and canoeing with introductions to many parts of our country and world.
