Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls - all girls -where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.
Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouts' membership has grown from 18 members in Savannah, Georgia, to 3.7 million members throughout the United States, including U.S. territories, and in more than 90 countries through USA Girl Scouts Overseas.
We want each girl to receive the benefits intrinsic to the Girl Scout Promise and Law, but we cannot do it alone. Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma incurs a cost of $218.50 per girl. This cost is the delivery of the Girl Scout program to each girl who is a registered Girl Scout within our Council's jurisdiction.
In addition to traditional Girl Scouting, GSEOK is proud to to be at the leading edge of outreach efforts. Because we underwrite the necessary program components for these community based programs, including transportation, paid staff leadership, financial assistance and all other program resources, the cost of service delivery per girl more than doubles the above mentioned cost. And the investment is worth the effort! Lives are continually changed, even for girls living in various at-risk situations:
- Girls living in public housing communities
- Girls whose mothers are incarcerated
- Girls living in rural counties
- Girls living in Hispanic communities
Girl Scouting inspires girls to the highest ideals, assisting in the development of strong values, a social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. There are many ways you can invest in the future of tomorrow's leaders!
